Youth Addiction Program
An intensive substance abuse education/treatment program for youth.
Chandler Consulting Inc., is proud to offer a program designed to specifically address the needs of
youth experiencing troubles as a result of alcohol and drug abuse. The focus of this program is to help
young people to understand the nature of addiction and the recovery process, to learn effective ways of
understanding and handling feelings and impulses, to understand their need to relate to a healthy peer
group and to improve communication skills.
This program consists of an intake and discharge appointment with youth and parents, eight 1 ½ hour
after school sessions with the young person and twice a month 1 ½ hour evening sessions for family
members. Each session will provide educational information on a specific topic and will also allow each
group member time for personalizing material and processing thoughts and feelings. The completion of a
workbook assists in personalizing material and is a requirement of this program.
Family Program
Our adolescent program is designed to meet the special needs of young people, their parents and
significant family members whose lives are being negatively affected by this problem. Successful
treatment requires active family participation in your young person's treatment program. The family
program is designed to enlist parents' cooperation and involvement in treatment, to help them
understand the illness, and to give parents an opportunity to feel better about themselves, each other,
and their children. Each family member will have an opportunity to explore how their child's substance
abuse problem has affected the family.
Aftercare
Following the completion of eight group sessions, participants may choose to continue with their
treatment process in an aftercare capacity. Weekly, biweekly or monthly attendance at group sessions
are an option.

Program Admission:
Any person age 13 to 21 who is harmfully involved with alcohol or other drugs and is medically able to
participate in a weekly program is eligible to enter treatment. This program is open ended, thus
allowing us to accommodate the need for immediate admissions, therefore there is no waiting period for
admission. An intake appointment with parents is a requirement of admission, however this may be
completed during the first week in treatment.
Leaders:
This program has been designed by Jan Chandler and Ron Peterson.
Jan Chandler, International Certified Alcohol & Drug Counsellor, is the founder of Chandler Consulting
Inc. For the last twelve years Jan has been working with People recovering from the effects of
addiction, codependency, and those coming from unhealthy families. Jan has a history of Working
closely and capably with youth, and has developed and delivered numerous programs to address
addictions, aimed at this population. Jan is an individual who is committed to breaking the cycle of
addiction in families.
Ron Peterson is a valued member of the Chandler Consulting Inc. team of professionals. Ron is qualified
as an Addictions Counsellor, and comes with respectable recommendations after working as Program Director
and Addictions Counsellor at Pine Lodge Treatment Centre, a residential treatment program in Indian Head,
Saskatchewan. He has successfully helped many youth to overcome alcohol & drug problems, and to develop
successful problem solving strategies. Ron works very capably with family groups.
