Managed Rehabilitation

Managed Rehabilitation addresses the rising costs associated with an employee's injury or illness. It is one of the most effective tools to assist with an early return to work. The goal is greater communication between employee, health care providers and employer. The results are significant cost savings and early return to work, leading to reduced disruption of operations. In addition to the lower costs associated with Worker's Compensation and insurance premiums, the costs of hiring and training replacement workers may also be considered.

Chronic conditions can be avoided through early intervention of an acute illness or injury. The first few weeks post accident/injury are crucial. Most people who fall ill or are injured on the job will return to activity within a reasonable amount of time. There is however, a significant number who do not. For this group, it is important to start on a rehabilitation program early and manage care aggressively.

A Registered Nursing Consultant from Chandler Consulting Inc. will meet with injured or ill employees to ensure that their medical treatment plan is appropriate. Also, our consultants will address with the Physician any treatment or testing that is being considered, ensuring that an expedient and cost effective rehabilitation plan is being pursued. There is clear communication with the employer and the patient's referring physician.

Treatment objectives are set and appropriate follow-up takes place. A highly structured goal oriented individualized program designed to maximize a person's ability to return to work is developed, which addresses functional, physical, behavioral and vocational needs of the patient. This process provides transition between the initial injury management and return to work.

A treatment plan is agreed upon and is then documented and contracted. Our consultant will then begin the monitoring phase, updating the contract(plan), when necessary. This requires ongoing communication with your employees, supervisors, and health care providers. When the return to work plan is complete, we will reduce or suspend active follow up.

Counselling services are also available when necessary to assist the worker in managing barriers associated with stress, depression, medication (in particular prescribed addictive pain medications), or other related issues.

Managed rehabilitation will positively affect morale, and employees will feel supported and know that their absence matters. Your organization will benefit from substantially reduced costs in the many areas noted above.
